Finding Hope When You Least Expect It

By Anonymous

I was going through a really bad day while living in New York years ago. I went to a Hoover vacuum cleaner store to buy a replacement belt for our machine. I was in such a bad state of mind. I was fighting so hard to hold the tears back.

I walked in and the woman behind the counter looked at me and said, “You’re having a bad day…aren’t you?” As the tears rolled down my cheeks, I said, “Yes…I am having a very bad day.”

She gently held my hand, looked at me in the eyes and said, “Don’t worry…things will work out for you. They will.” I thanked her from the bottom of my heart for her thoughts, paid for the purchase and walked out of the store.

Her name was Jackie Hope. She was a total stranger who became an “instant friend” and lifted me up when (as Aretha Franklin sings it) I was “crippled emotionally.” Jackie you made the difference that day. Thank you wherever you are.
