This is Part of Joe’s Obituary: “Joseph John Germano, 67, passed away on December 24, 2014 at his home in Barnegat surrounded by friends and family. Joe was born on June 1, 1947 in Kearny and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in the Vietnam War with the 82nd Airborne Division and was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for Valor. He was a member of American Legion Post 232 in Barnegat and VFW Post 184 in Kearny. He was employed by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority for nearly 40 years before retiring.”
I can’t thank you enough for teaching me the true meaning of the word C-O-U-R-A-G-E. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to teach me (by means of of example through the survival skills you ‘honed’ in ‘Nam) as we sat in John’s driveway in the summer while drinking soda & beer. You taught me to how to “emotionally” face my battle against Multiple Sclerosis.
Joe, the day Sally passed away, you came to see me at home because you needed to talk to somebody with the “emotional strength” to help you get through the bad time you were facing. I was humbled and said, “Joe, you are and will always be MY HERO. I certainly am not worthy to be in your class… You are my “Emotional Hercules.”
You looked at me and said, “Thank you…I just needed to hear that” and went on your way.
From an emotional standpoint, I could never, ever repay Joe for what he taught me and everything he stood for.
Rest easy My Friend………..Tony Lombardo
